WYWY - Cacophony of Care
About: WYWY is a dream pop duo and sound art collaborators formed in 2015, with X Alvarez (Astral LXXXI) on vocals, synth, and xylophone, and Mckie (Mckiealvarez) on guitars, bass, and synth. Their ethereal, shoegaze-infused music creates immersive, introspective soundscapes.
Their latest album, Whispers of Existence, has been performed live in full at The Fridge Concert Series 44, and internationally in Berlin with KÄF Concerts, as well as across Dubai’s cultural venues like Jameel Arts Center. Active in sound and visual art, WYWY collaborates with artists and performers to craft multidimensional experiences that explore memory, emotion, and connection across cultures.
Piece: Cacophony of Care is a sound art performance exploring the emotional and lived realities of mental health and caregiving. Through layered voices, improvised sounds, and ambient textures, it reflects the delicate balance between empathy and exhaustion. The performance captures how care, though rooted in love, can feel chaotic and overwhelming, shaped by personal struggles, societal pressures, and emotional fatigue. Audience participation allows individuals to contribute their own vocal expressions, creating a shared sonic space that mirrors the collective and personal challenges of mental wellbeing. Drawing from real-life experiences, Cacophony of Care illuminates the tension, vulnerability, and resilience inherent in supporting oneself and others. By confronting discomfort and amplifying voices often unheard, the performance invites reflection, connection, and understanding, turning sound into a vessel for empathy, acknowledgment, and shared care in an often fragmented world.
